The important book, by Margaret Wise Brown

Speaking of Margaret Wise Brown….while she’s known for her big hits (Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny, the Big Red Barn) she wrote a ton of books over her career, including one of our favorites, The Important Book.
The Important Book is a super simple but kinda meta book that reduces some really basic “things” that a child may be thinking about, even further. I don’t necessarily agree with all of these reductions, but generally really enjoy the practice of asking kids to find something simple within a larger category.
The illustrations, tho, are really where it’s at. Beautiful and straightforward or magically surreal, these drawings by Leonard Weisgard are next level.
